Once again, LaSalle College’s E BOOTCAMP was a great success. Eighty budding students registered to participate in this annual weekend, flagship event of the Creative Entrepreneur Program (CEP). They presented fourteen innovative and varied business projects, as they came from virtually every school in the College.
An ex-graduate student from the Business Management program, Charles Olivier Patenaude, delivered a moving testimonial explaining how his training at LaSalle College played a determining role in his decision to start a business with members of his family. In addition, Maude Marquis Bissonnette, a PhD student in Social Science, gave a very interesting lecture on the challenges of women's entrepreneurship.
The big winner this year was GoCut. This group of students offered an ingenious hairstyling/barber service where the stylist comes to you. Their web-based platform allowed the user to set up an appointment, payments, all in the comfort of your own home. The second prize went to the Peixe team, a word meaning fish in Portuguese. This team proposed a very innovative project to produce fashion accessories from fish hide waste from fishmongers on the North Shore of Quebec. The project was inspired by what is known as the circular economy. Their prize was sponsored this year by ELLICOM.
Highly motivated and dynamic teams presented projects both for commercial and social purposes. For example, a group of STE students presented an original shower truck project for homeless people in Montreal. New this year, some students in information technology, called TECHNO COACHS, helped the teams to better integrate the use of technology in their projects, one of our current major issues. Several members of the Entrepreneur Club also had fun working on their startup projects
Finally, a dozen teachers in the school proudly wearing their COACH hats, were there to give advices, recommendations, and feedbacks to the students. The atmosphere was exciting and competitive. We had great comments from the participants and overall felt very happy to see the great motivation created by this event.
